Actually, in current builds, DB will take note of the MOST RECENTLY SELECTED kit (from the last time you hit the button to choose one) and will use this as the default.
My idea for this is sort of like a web browser-- you can either have a new window open up with a default home page, or as a user-defined home page, or as a prompt asking what location (or in this case, what kit) you want to start with.
Hmm. I suppose we could have three options: a) always use kit as specified here in the prefs, b) automatically remember the last-used kit, or c) always prompt. There actually used to be a pref setting for default kit in the 1.0.x series, but I removed it in 1.1 thinking that the "automatically remember" approach was simpler and often the most convenient.
