The temp would have to be inherited by the bar the sound(s) was placed in, I would think. I suppose you could implement some sort of "tempo mismatch warning" dialog, but that could turn into graphic clutter pretty quickly. As for selecting, I would envision a trio of tools: 1) the arrow as it currently is implemented, 2) another style arrow (maybe a hollow one like Adobe uses in Illustrator) that could "drill down" into the measure and select individual instruments, and 3) a marquee select tool that could grab parts of a measure in order to copy/paste somewhere else. Standard tool modifiers should be available (shift select, option select, etc) Personally, I like suggestion 2 more than suggestion 3 above. I think the marquee could cause problems in the sense that different sizes and shapes could be selected and may not fit into the target area for pasting. have you all considered implementing a marquee tool, to allow the selection, duplication and deletion of various elements inside each phrase?
Hi Mike,
This type of suggestion has been made before. The question is how best to implement it in a consistent, user-friendly way that does not confuse the UI too much.
Right now, you can only place the insertion point in between bars, and only whole bars can be selected. It would be reasonably easy to expand this so the ins pt could be tracked within the bar, for copy/paste of events within the bar along the axis of time. Things can potentially get complicatd, however, e.g.:
- issues with time signatures would arise if you were able to just cut/ paste beats from within a bar - the availability to insert or paste beats vs. bars would vary depending on the context (i.e. if the cursor was inside a bar or not), which could cause subtly confusing UI. But maybe I am worrying too much. - how would selection of and copy/paste of individual sounds within a beat work?
Thoughts?
