hi,
first off: nice, nice, nice. i like it for its simplicity. keep it that way - don't add tooooooooooooooo much, please. :)))
ok, that said, i'd like to make a suggestion. ;)
how about making the grouped instruments, like the hi-hats, cut off each other? currently, it's like this:
closed hi x...x...x.......x...x...x.......x... open hi ............Xxxxxx..........Xxxxxx
depending on the tempo, the open hi-hat still sounds while the closed hi-hat on the 1 is hit, which just doesn't sound realistic - this would be ok for a cymbal hit or such, but not for hi-hats. so, in order to improve the impression, it'd have to be like:
closed hi x...x...x.......x...x...x.......x... open hi ............Xxxx............Xxxx....
same goes for cymbals and crashes, quick basedrum stuff like
bu-BUMP
;)
hope you get the idea. see, since you already group instruments, which is a good idea - why not make these instruments monophonic?
ok, another question: how about volume-adjustments? i wouldn't go as far as adding volumesliders or such to the drumpattern - keep it simple. :) but how about letting me define different volumes for one instrument, while creating the drumset? one would then choose like three differently loud basedrums, for example (instead of one basedrum and adjusting the volume in the mix).
how about it? :)
greetz, keep up the great work... (and keep it simple <g>)

I'll try to exercise restraint... if the urge becomes great, maybe I will have to break it into new products or something, like Doggiebox Pro or XP... ;)

Yes, absolutely... I've realized this is a problem and it's a high priority to fix. Thanks for bringing it up though.

Hmmm, interesting idea. Dynamics adjustment is a priority, but I still haven't figured out the best way to implement it. Your idea is interesting; I hadn't thought of that approach.
One of my ideas was to provide a disclosable slider or menu, e.g. control-click on a beat in the grid to adjust its level. The drum icon could be rendered with a corresponding alpha value, e.g. normal would be shown full, a half-loud one would show with a 50% white over-fill, or whatever. Such an approach would permit adjusting individual sounds on an arbitrary basis without having to anticipate and pre-define levels for instruments that might need dynamics. What do you think?
I might argue that if you have a particular recurring need for a bass drum of e.g. 3 levels, you might be best to define 3 bass drum variants in the usual way, because that would also allow you to record different samples for each (since in reality, a drum struck at a different velocity has a different sound characteristic, not just a different level).
I still like your idea though; I'd like to hear others' thoughts on it, and any other approaches.
