Hey all, Thanks to Mike, the Behan Box kit is now up for download in the library! Here is how Mike describes it:
Sometimes simpler really is better. I recorded the sounds in this kit using one dynamic mic setup about 8 feet behind the throne. I recorded to tape on my Tascam 424, then dumped the sounds into my Mac for further processing. The kit itself is a no-name beater that my friend Tom Behan let me borrow indefinitely, hence the name Behan Box.
I diced up the sounds and sort of "mastered" them individually with Cubase, applying eq and maximizer plug ins as needed. I haven't spent too much time adjusting levels within the kit, but they seem pretty solid. I didn't apply any time based effects like reverb. I prefer dbkits that are dry, which allows individuals to slather on their own reverb during the process.
This has a kind of "live" sound. I'd hesitate to call it "lo-fi" since it has connotations I'd rather avoid, but, technically, it is lo-fi. I'll hope you post it and that someone besides me can make use of it.
