Songs (with drums by Doggiebox) have been posted
Hello, I've posted some of the recordings I've created recently, using Doggiebox as my drummer :) http://jimwalter.zapto.org -Jim __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! Shopping - with improved product search http://shopping.yahoo.com
Nice, Jim. I've only had time to listen to "Ramble" so far, but the thing that strikes me is how natural the drum track can sound if you mix it right (as you have). It's there, but not "in your face". I sometimes have a tendency to mix the drums with too much presence in an effort to give a mix "punch". It doesn't always work for me. Nice work Jim. I'll add a link to your site to the DB songs page when I get a moment. What are you recording in, and what are you compressing to mp3 with? I notice the levels are nice and full... everything I mix down in Audiodesk seems to be "quiet" when played back in itunes, compared to other material, despite my mastering it as close to the red as possible. I haven't been sure whether it's an issue with audiodesk bouncing low, or itunes attenuating what it encodes. Any reason why you've zipped the files? It necessitates extra steps (gotta download the full zip, then unzip, then load into itunes) in order to listen, whereas posting raw mp3 files would allow them to start playing immediately in the web browser. And since mp3 is already compressed, as you will have noticed the file size difference between the zip and mp3 is insignificant -- in fact, Mirror for example, it's actually 200 bytes larger. -ben -- Ben Kennedy, chief magician zygoat creative technical services 613-228-3392 | 1-866-466-4628 http://www.zygoat.ca
Hello, Thanks for the feedback. I zipped the files a while back because some versions of IE for the Mac were not handling direct links to MP3s correctly.. But now that you mention it, that was a few years back...so I guess it's just habit now. I'll probably be changing that in the near future. All recording is done on a Foxtex VF-80. I mixdown to SoundStudio. I use Apple's SoundTrack to add compression/EQ effects, then I convert the .wav (or .aif) to mp3 using SoundJam -Jim --- Ben Kennedy <ben@zygoat.ca> wrote:
