Second, how do you program rolls? I'm currently programming them as 32nd notes. Is there a better way to do it?
That's the best way so far, I think. Any suggestions to improve this?
I have just one. Export a single snare beat. Open it in an external editor and slightly attenuate it's volume. Use eq if desired to subtly change it's timbre. Season to taste.
Import this new sound back into your kit. Call it snare accent or snare soft or something like this. In your 32nd note array, sprinkle this new drum sound in to simulate the changing velocity a real drummer would play with.
Second suggestion: Record a real one (easier said than done). There are CD's available of drum sounds only. I saw one last weekend for 99 bucks. Too much for me at the moment.
