Hey yall, Over the past several weeks I've been tied up with some film projects followed by a bunch of less-satisfying sys-admin type crap, so I have been slower getting this out than I hoped. That said, here is what I expect to be the last build before an actual new public release. <http://www.doggiebox.com/distribution/Doggiebox-1F5.zip> Number of small internal changes throughout this one, but which should not present any obvious differences. Having said that, there is one functional change that came out of a recent discussion: • To improve ease of most frequent use, the invocation behaviour for the “Insert Bar[s]” button in the Inspector has been reversed. Now, its default function is “Insert Bar” (one bar). To insert several bars, first hold Shift so that it becomes “Insert Bars...”, and you will be prompted as before. Comments welcome. I need to verify/get the documentation and web site up to date, then I hope to post the 1.4 final and a public announcement within the next couple of days. -ben -- Ben Kennedy (chief magician) zygoat creative technical services http://www.zygoat.ca

Hi Ben Still not working for me :-( No error messages - just that all sounds are bursts of white noise. the waveform image in the drum editor also reflects this. Well, that's interesting... testing this on my G5 running Tiger (which I evidently haven't done recently), I'm getting no sound at all. Looks like I broke something; either a 10.5 vs 10.4 or an intel vs. ppc problem. I will look into this right away! What OS version and hardware platform are you on, Sion? -b -- Ben Kennedy (chief magician) zygoat creative technical services http://www.zygoat.ca

I've tried it on two G4s both with Tiger installed. G41 is 350MHZ G4 OSX 10.4.9 with 640Mb SDRAM (powerPC) G22 is 733MHZ OS X 10.4.11 1.25GB SDRAM (powerPC) My last working version of DB is 1.3 (build 1E14) HTH Sion:-) On 9 Feb 2008, at 05:11, Ben Kennedy wrote:

Thanks Sion, I spent some time this evening and have nailed down those issues. Looks like for at least the last several builds, playback has not worked properly on PowerPC machines at all. I've just been testing primarily on my MacBook Pro and hadn't tested on the G5 in awhile... there's a wake-up call for me! Anyway, please try this one and let me know if there are still further problems: <http://www.doggiebox.com/distribution/Doggiebox-1F6.zip> And Mike, yeah -- Leopard support is now in the can (finally!) -ben -- Ben Kennedy (chief magician) zygoat creative technical services http://www.zygoat.ca

Cool. I find that I've become quite dependent on DB and it's a bit scary sometimes! I may put off the actual drum kit purchase I was toying with. I mean... c'mon... I'm a guitar player! ---- Ben Kennedy <ben@zygoat.ca> wrote:

That's great!! Don't seem to have any playback problems now after a quick run on my macs. Cheers Ben Sion :)) ------------------------------------------ Sion Morris www.sionsmusic.cinnamondesign.co.uk On 12 Feb 2008, at 09:11, Ben Kennedy wrote:

Excellent. Ladies and gentlemen, after all this time, Doggiebox 1.4 is now released to the masses! <http://www.doggiebox.com/distribution/Doggiebox.zip> PR announcements and whatnot will follow later in the day. Thanks everyone for your help this round. Now that the Universal Binary port is done, and I am still without a full-time job, hopefully I can move on to new features and improvements... :) -b -- Ben Kennedy (chief magician) zygoat creative technical services http://www.zygoat.ca

Coolness! Can anyone running Leopard confirm that all is well? I'm still on Tiger, and apart from the general tedium of the hoops I would need to jump through to score a legit copy of Leopard that isn't extortionately expensive in South America ;) I've been holding off until all is well with DB on Leopard anyway :)

Well, less good news about the lack o' full-time job, but I shall selfishly look forward to new features and improvements in DB. :) I'd happily repay for the 2.x upgrade, since DB is easily worth it. :) Cheers, Carl -- Carl Edlund Anderson http://www.carlaz.com/

Hi All - Just gave 1.4 a test whirl on my 10.3.9 first generation clamshell iBook 300Mhz (it's tough and great for bringing to rehearsals). Wasn't expecting it to work, but it seems fine in basic compose and playback mode (haven't tried anything fancy). Also will be used on a couple of slightly later iBooks and a 2000 vintage 400MHz G4 Tower (10.4.11), but haven't had time to try it yet. Cheers, - Mark P P.S. Agree that I'd pay again for version 2.0 as and when ... On 22 Feb 2008, at 16:21, Carl Edlund Anderson wrote:

Hmm, good to know! I stated 10.4.11 as the "minimum required" for two primary reasons: a) I was pretty sure the ExtAudioFile routines (now used for file format encoding/decoding) were only available starting with 10.4, and b) I hadn't made any effort to test on 10.3 or earlier. But, this is interesting. I might go test this on a 10.3.9 system and see how far it will go... -b -- Ben Kennedy (chief magician) zygoat creative technical services http://www.zygoat.ca

Sorry about this Ben, but I have a problem with this new release - Playback is fine, but I can't seem to export - rather no file is created when I try to do this. I get a super-fast progress bar and no file created (have also tried alternative file formats). I've overwritten the slightly earlier version, so can't compare, but version 1.3 exports ok. Have tried with a number of different kits including 'Ben's Premier Kit' and the sample song included, but with the same results. This is the same on both my macs running Tiger. Export as .wav works for me on a MacBook Pro with Leopard installed. I haven't tried any other formats yet. Export is alarmingly fast, but the resulting file plays as expected. On Feb 24, 2008, at 8:15 AM, Sion Morris wrote:

Hey Sion, Somebody else just reported this and I can reproduce it as well. Seems to affect PowerPC and/or 10.4 only (Intel and 10.5 are fine). In the mean time, as you note, 1.3.1 exports properly. Thanks, I'll fix this for the next release! -b -- Ben Kennedy (chief magician) zygoat creative technical services http://www.zygoat.ca

Glad it wasn't just me! Will use 1.13 until the new release Cheers Sion On 28 Feb 2008, at 03:01, Ben Kennedy wrote:

For what it's worth, I'm still using principally 1.3 (build 1E14) on an Intel Mac mini with 10.4.11, and that's still happy enough. Sound like I might want to hold off on going all the way to 1.4, for the moment! Cheers, Carl -- Carl Edlund Anderson http://www.carlaz.com/

Just so I'm clear... Leopard issues are still in the hopper for resolution? Thinking about a computer upgrade. I will keep my aging G4 online, but would like to move DB to Leopard if that's an option at this point. Sorry if I missed some traffic on that. On Feb 7, 2008, at 5:36 PM, Ben Kennedy wrote:
