Thanks for the response. You are right - not matter what, programming the drums is a time consuming thing. I guess what I was after is the 'hear it as I go' possibility, because I've noticed that with a few of my songs, there are complexities that require me to go over and over and over what a 3 second section sounds like and what the drums should do. So the 'loop section' in cubase or logic comes in handy - and would be perfect if I had db and cubase/logic synchronised so I can hear the troublesome section and correct it. Obviously, there are other ways to do it, but I really think what I'm suggesting is the best (for myself atleast), and I'm sure others would find it useful, as it makes it interactive - and unless you are a drum player, us song writers generally need to hear what the song sounds like at a certain point so that appropriate drumming can be programmed in.
Thanks again,
David

--------------------------------- Here's what I usually do:
I compose my song on my couch, far away from any computer. I work outwhat I think is a good arrangement.
I sit down with Cubase and record a throw-away, scratch guitar track toa click track. Note that cubase has a tempo track that you can use toactually change tempos more than once within a song, and that the clicktrack follows this tempo track.
If the song is complex, I make notes on paper to allow me to visuallyfollow the arrangement.
Then, I'll sit down with Doggiebox to compose a killer, almost final, drum track. As I go, I export aiff and suck it into Cubase, but this isusually due to sheer curiosity. I'm usually dying to know how it willsound! Once complete, I export the song in it's entirety and place itin Cubase.
So, David... the thing is this... whether the application functions asa plug in or a stand alone, the process is more or less the same. You've still got to program your drums tracks at some point. If youcould do them in Cubase (plug-in style), you would still go through, program -> audition -> decide if you like it -> revise asneeded. The only difference is that you'd save the export step if youDID decide your drums were final.
If you're just looking for loops, then use canned loops. Garage bandhas lots built-in. I'm not a huge fan of GB, having used Cubase, though. Once your song is arranged, you can still sweeten up the canneddrums you composed to with a final DB track.
Programming drums is a b**ch, no matter what. Doggiebox is probably theeasiest solution, as it now stands, among any beat sequencers I've everseen. The only way to make programming easier would be to trigger drumsvia midi with a full blown e-kit, but then you have to be able to playactual drums pretty well!
Good luck with your solution!

So, sure, a rewire would work too. As longas I can interactively hear my vocal and guitar andprogram the drums. It actually helps with composition too. You write asong, you put some drums in and along the way realisethat an extra bar is needed here and there, so you putthe drums in, and re-record the song and keeprepeating this until you are happy. From cubase, Iused to do this with fruity loops, but I'm on mac now. Of course, doggiebox is its own app and thats fine -it just makes it more powerful and maximises itsuseage.ThanksDavid--- Sage sage@gypsycaravan.com wrote:
Every now and again someone asks for this and italways seems totallybackwards to me. Doggiebox's strength is not in itssound generationbut in its composition capabilities. If anything,Doggiebox should bea VST or AU host, not a plugin. You can output to WAV or MIDI if you want to importyour drum tracksinto Cubase. I do this with Logic and highlyrecommend it.On 5/5/06, David Weisinger d_weising@yahoo.comwrote:
hi there. any plans to make doggiebox a plugin sothat I could for example, open cubase and press
play
and make my drums as I hear my guitar playing ?Thanks,David__________________________________________________Do You Yahoo!?Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam
