Cash accounting is optional; bulk edit dates; a couple of bug fixes

Hi all, Breaking the cadence, rather than waiting til Friday, with a fresh build. What's new in 0.230529 today: • Accounting for cash transfers in portfolios is now optional. With cash tracking off, you‘ll no longer be forced to record a deposit before being able to record a buy. Such transactions will be inferred. To disable it, visit Portfolio → Portfolio Settings… and turn off the Track deposits and withdrawals checkbox. • Transaction dates can be edited in bulk with Portfolio → Modify Transactions…. • More minor improvements to transaction importing. • Fixed a problem where symbol search and intra-day quote updates stopped working again late last week due another change in a Yahoo API endpoint. • Fixed a crash on launch caused by a cache database migration bug. Should a similar bug creep in again, Tradesy will present an error message instead of crashing. As usual, you can update in-app. If you're one of the theoretical handful affected by the launch crash, you can also grab it from the web site. -ben

Undoable edits; re-orderable transactions; negative balances

Hello all, Another two Fridays, how about another release? What's new in build 0.230519: • Creating, modifying and deleting transactions are now all undoable. • Transactions on the same date can be re-ordered by drag and drop in the transaction list. This might be useful to correct situations where the order is fiscally material (such as doing a sell before a buy). • Negative cash and share balances are supported. To enable this, choose Portfolio → Portfolio Settings… and turn on the "Allow negative balances" checkbox. Tradesy will no longer complain about insufficient cash or shares when logging a buy or a sell if such a transaction causes the balance to fall below zero. • Fixed a bug where after modifying transactions in bulk the changes would only persist for the first transaction. Whoops. • Improved compatibility in transactions importing (extra text after a symbol name is ignored; dividends and other yields need not specify the number of shares). • Various minor user experience improvements related to portfolio & transaction display. • MacOS 11 (Big Sur) or newer is now required. This was necessitated by using new API to make managing the transactions list smooth and efficient, particularly in conjunction with the new undo support. Portfolio transactions import

Hey all, While a recurring two-week release interval hasn't been deliberate it's been fortuitous, and today presents another, with that reciprocal capability last alluded. • Transactions can be imported from a CSV or tab-delimited text file. First select the target portfolio (or create a new one), then choose Portfolio → Import… in the menu. You’ll be prompted to indicate the order of fields in the file, after which Tradesy will make its best effort to import the contents accordingly. The importer does some heuristics to figure out things like date and number formats automatically, and to interpret the transaction type. No doubt there will be edge cases it doesn't handle properly; I'll be eager to hear about any issues you encounter so they can be accommodated. In addition: • Multiple transactions can be edited at once using Portfolio → Modify Transactions… to change the symbol or notes in bulk. (This might be useful to fix up symbol names after an import; e.g., “BBD.B” to “BBD-B.TO”.) • Fixed a bug where exporing portfolio data would yield an empty file instead of using a default field order. • Fixed a bug where entering some particular currency amounts might fail with the message “The cash amount is of a greater precision than can be traded”.
