Ben; Ah, ok. I think I know what you are thinking of, and it makes sense. I come from a Linux background, so things are different, for sure. For input, I have this new Griffin Power-something-or-other that I am still learning how to use. It has a "line/mic" switch on it that increases gain. I have used it only to record from a tape deck; even in Line setting, the tape deck signal was *way* too strong; I had to reduce it drastically to not get this box to clip. I have 4 basses kicking around the house; 1 is a Fender active bass, and another Fender might get a pre-amp put in. But, from my little experiment above, I don't think that signal strength from passive instruments will be a problem. (4 bases? Two daughters play a bit, too) GarageBand looks interesting; anyone tried it yet? Thanks; John Stewart Ottawa, Canada.

A few songs from a new user

Hi Folks, Calling myself a "new user" makes me feel a little like an addict, but I guess I am, since I've been in the studio every minute this week that my wife and job will allow... Having access to a program like Doggiebox has totally opened up my recording world, since drums are the one instrument I never learned to play very well. (Oh, and the lack of a kit might have something to do with that too...) I've got six songs up on my site right now... all recorded in the last week or so, and therefore a little rough around the edges. Admittedly, two of them are drumless. Dear DoggieBoxers; I have used the Demo version of DoggieBox to "play" along with - using it as a glorified drum machine. I have a USB audio box, and an old stereo mixer. Any ideas on how I can get rid of the mixer; ie, I want to internally mix the output of DoggieBox with my Bass plugged directly in to my powerbook. Hi John The only way I can think of doing that is by using the screen capture tool Snapz pro available for $49 at: http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/snapzprox You can use the movie capture facility as a get-around by setting the area to capture to a minimum and then extracting the audio from the resulting movie. As it records all the sounds that occur on the mac, you should be able to play along and record at the same time. Its probably a lot less fuss however to record your loop and import it to cubase or ProTools - its set up for overdubs then. Please be sure to buy your copy of Doggiebox though even if you go the Snapz route. Sion

... Doggiebox being displayed as part of a "Big Mix Volume 1" suite of software from Aladdin Systems. Ben, if this what you intended then I say congrats to you for making a stellar product that managed to get bundled and advertised at the Expo! hi, I want to record a drumkit for doggiebox. any tips? I just wanted to go out and record the kit of a friend. The user's guide mentions a sample rate of 44,1 Khz. does the bitrate matters? I added two new songs. #8 is done with the nskit(woodb.): great drum. comment is welcome.
