Kit building feature request

Ben, How hard would it be to include an "export sound" button in the kit building window? Sometimes, when building a kit, or modifying another's kit, it is neccessary to tweak a sound and import it back into a revised DB kit. Example: my ns_kit that I sent you has a ride crash in it that has a tiny bit of excess space at the front of it, causing it to sound like it's slightly mis-hit when played in a song. I want to export the sound, clip the start, and import it back in. My original sound file is (hypothetically) not available. Currently, I must put the sound into a song, export it, edit it, then import it back. It would be great to save the song building step and just export it from the kit. Having said all that, it would be a redundant feature if you decided that it was worthwhile to implement the export of discreet drum sounds from a song file. In other words, I could more easily post process the sounds if they could be exported as separate wave files, making the "export sound" button not as important. I appreciate you listening. I hope others are finding the application as useful and rewarding to use as I am. I'm getting pretty good reviews from the folks that I've either programmed tracks for, or who have heard my stuff in songs. Thanks again in advance for whatever you come up with next.

I've just completed my first song with DoggieBox - excellent (the software, not the song) The only thing I could have used that wasn't already there was an addition to the Drum kit of Hand claps. Any chance they could be added to one of the kits???? Cheers Charlie

Boy this hand clap thing has turned out to be much more than just the quick little tweak it started as. phew. i am trying my hardest to even imagine a situation where i'd need them. maybe if i was doing a remake of the happy days theme song... sorry I'm only kidding. Good luck guys. There's nothing out there on the web you could pull into a new kit? I second that. Right now thats basically what i do on paper, then program out the beats one by one and copy and paste and tweak till it's all set. Using your approach would really streamline the "song" creation part after the beats were set. Not only that, but you would save yourself the headache of having to copy and past all those bars trying to get that last chorus just right. and its really hard to visualize... even with the section marker list thing that's there now. I have to say it never occured to me to have the software keep track of things, i just grabbed a pen and paper. Here's a post I made back in February for some abilities I'd like to see in Doggiebox. Several list members chimed in with their support, and I assume that's still the case: (begin old post) I think there is a great opportunity for enhancing the sequencing abilities of Doggiebox. The interface focus could change, making the process of creating drum parts much easier. Basically, you'd base the entire editing interface on a song section (to use the terminology from the Doggiebox section marker list). Edits are made one section at a time, and all sections still appear in the section list. The interface twist is that, instead of piecing together a song in the editor window, you do it in a "song-map" window that's basically a table of the drum sections in the order you want them to be played back and, for each section, how many bars should be played, what the starting bar is, etc. A song could then be put together by dragging sections from the section list into the song-map. A song could quickly change by reordering the song-map list, changing any song-map section's playback parameters, or adding/deleting sections from the song-map. An example song might be comprised of the following sections, all 4 bars each: Intro, Verse, Chorus, Chorus2, and Interlude. Quickly arranging those sections into a song could result in something that looks like: Intro, Verse, Chorus, Verse, Chorus, Chorus2, Interlude, Chorus, Chorus2. Maybe you want the last Chorus2 to repeat - just double the number of bars it plays for. Maybe something's missing in the change from Chorus to Chorus2 - create a new section called ChorusTransition that's 1 bar long, put it in between the Chorus/Chorus2 sections, and have the related Chorus play only 3 instead of 4 bars. Maybe the first bar of the Chorus after the Interlude needs more symbols - create a new section called InterludeTransition, 1 bar long, place it after the Interlude, have that post-Interlude Chorus start on bar 2 and now play only 2 bars (since we also use ChorusTransition). At least for me, putting together and editing a song in this fashion would be a lot simpler than having a long editing window full of similar looking bars encompassing the entire song. Of course, there's no reason why the two forms of editing can't coexist simultaneously, having a switch for the editor to go between section and full song mode. Lets go back to that InterludeTransition. Say we just directly edit that first bar of Chorus after the Interlude. The software could automatically set up a new section called Fill1, insert Fill1 between the Interlude and Chorus in the song-map, and change that Chorus' starting bar to 2. Later, you could rename Fill1 to InterludeTransition. I can't wait. The freestyle mode will really open things up for me and other newcomers to step writing. Having the option to just tap in what i need will really speed things up. As i've said before to be able to tap in something then see what it looks like in its step written form will be an incredible teaching tool... so i can leave the tapping in the dust someday. I've been shouting from the roof tops about doggiebox too! i bring it up in almost every post on the Korg PXR4 board. as well as in regular conversation with many of my mac-loving musician friends. Why wouldn't i? it just rocks. the only downside is that i can no longer listen to music the way i used to... every beat bounces around in my head as i wonder what how i would go about getting it into doggiebox. i just never thought about the drums before. thanks for the wake up. and all helpful people in here that answer my newbie questions. so damn cool. dan walsh

New features in the drum kit editor: - Support for dragging and dropping sound files to and from the Finder, as well as saving to disk in any chosen format. - Volume slider control for adjusting the nominal level for each drum sound. - Support for dragging and dropping drum images to and from the Finder, or directly from graphics applications, as well as copy/paste using the clipboard, and saving to disk in TIFF format. Improvements to the song editor: - Fixed a bug where some Undo functions would not work in a newly created song. - Fixed a bug where importing or exporting sounds would fail when the filename contained non-standard characters. - Fixed a bug where it was impossible to delete the first section marker in the list. - Added a collapse-to-mono toggle button. - Improved responsiveness of user interface and position indicator after stopping playback. - Improved the alert messages when a drum kit is missing or unavailable -- no longer says "Cannot find '(null)'". I think having three controls might be confusing... but I suppose that they could be honed into two and work like thus: - "play" button, which would play the current selection (if any, otherwise, the whole song) - "play from" button, which would play from the current insertion point onward. Thus to play the whole song, you could either deselect all and hit play, or rewind to beginning and hit play. What do you think? >PS.
