Hey everybody,
Doggiebox 2.0.1 is now available, which addresses a number of bugs, memory leaks and stability issues. If you're running 2.0, you can hit "Check for Updates" in the Doggiebox menu to update automatically.
Also, beginning with this version, Doggiebox is now available on (in?) the Mac App Store: <http://itunes.apple.com/app/doggiebox/id497101983>
For the benefit of potential new users visiting the App Store, I would like to encourage people to post some Doggiebox ratings and reviews since Doggiebox doesn't have any yet. To facilitate this I would like to give away several promo codes, redeemable in the App Store for a complimentary licence, to people on this mailing list.
If you have not yet bought Doggiebox 2.0 and would like to be eligible for one of the promo codes, please just e-mail me off-list at ben(a)zygoat.ca with your name and country of residence. (And if you happen to know any influential writers or musicians who might like to review Doggiebox, I would love to hear from them as well!)
cheers,
-ben

We used your drum machine program on 11 of the 13 tracks on our debut
album, we change time signatures and use syncopation, and i think you would
like a free copy of the cd so we can show you how much we did with the BETA
VERSION!!! what address should i send it to?
thanks so much for making this product
Hi everybody,
After close to two years of development, Doggiebox 2.0 is almost ready to meet the world at large, and you can get your hands on it first.
Doggiebox 2.0 will cost $39, both for new users and as an upgrade (except for those who purchased Doggiebox this year or last). This will be the first paid upgrade since Doggiebox first debuted in 2002.
If you're running an earlier 2.0 beta build, you can run a "check for updates" to download the final release. As an expression of thanks for being a tester, you'll find a link and coupon code for a 25% discount.
An overview of everything that's changed and improved since 1.4.3 is here:
<http://www.doggiebox.com/documentation/current/history.html>
Should you find any problems with the upgrade process or bugs in the new build, please let me know.
An official announcement and public release will follow, along with an updated web site, in the coming days.
cheers,
-ben

I love the graphics included in the Tama Swingstar kit, but I use all
the other kits for different projects, too. I'd appreciate a quick how-
to for copying the art from one kit and applying it to the others, if
that's possible.

So I noticed that DB updated to 2.0β a few days back. No fanfare? Well, it-s working for me so far. :)
While I haven't had much time to work on new stuff (baby daughter, etc.), I have been cracking open some old dbsongs to take advantage of the multitrack audio export, and slapping new output into old demos in GarageBand. This is definitely a cool feature. :)
Cheers,
Carl

Is anyone else not able to get their AIFF/WAV exports to line up with
a click track? I'm using a software bass guitar in Logic Express and
it's always ahead of the drums almost immediately, thus making my
pre-made midi tracks impossible to use. I'm running the latest beta
version on 10.5.8.
Thanks,
Aaron
Hey all,
I've just posted a new build which addresses the following:
- Fixed bugs that caused exporting to fail in some circumstances (with a
spurious sample rate and channel selection, as well as incorrect disk
free space calculation). Thanks Charlie and Jack.
- Fixed a redrawing issue that followed an insert or removal of beats.
- Fixed a recent regression where some preferences (particularly MIDI
endpoints) were not sticking.
- The tempo basis selector in transport panel is now left-clickable.
If the automatic software update doesn't seem to be working, you can
download directly from <http://www.doggiebox.com/distribution/
Doggiebox-1G12.zip>.

This is excellent news! Gotta say, I still love DB for entering percussion. I've tried many different programs and this is the best user interface on the planet! Thanks for all your hard work on this.

Hi Haakon,
I'm not sure whether you're still actively using Doggiebox, but I wanted
to let you know that I've finally resolved a couple of different issues
that you reported to me a LONG time ago!
First, there was a problem in which MIDI files exported by Doggiebox
would sometimes dritft and not match the proper tempo. You first
reported this in July 2008, and Jack Saturn followed up with the same
evidence recently. Fortunately I've finally been able to nail down the
issue, and it's fixed as build 1G11 (posted a few days ago).
In a related issue, sometimes MIDI files simply would not export at
all. This is also fixed (thanks to Jack and David Sampson for reporting
this as well).
Finally, a small one: The basis note by which the tempo is counted
(e.g., quarter note = XXX bpm) will now be changeable simply by clicking
on it in the inspector to get the pop-up menu. Previously, you had to
right-click, which was obscure. You pointed this out in July 2006, and
I'm pleased to say that just over four years later I've finally improved
it. :) This will show up in the next build.
thanks,
-ben

Hey all,
Here's another tune from Bruce (re-sent to the list on his behalf).

As long as you're collectin', : ) Here's an instrumental part of an
attempt at "September Gurls" by Alex Chilton. I failed miserably at
the vocals and dumped them but it was an early attempt to use the
Doggiebox drum kit which I was pretty happy with. I find a little
compression and light reverb brings them out and makes them very
natural. I just did a quickie remix on my laptop speakers so I hope
it sounds alright.
